Being eSmart

This page is dedicated to providing staff, students and parents with information to help keep them safe online and to give tips on how to best navigate through the on-line world. You can also report inappropriate on-line behaviour at the link below. Remember it is always a good idea to talk to a year level program leader or tutor if you believe you have seen or been a victim on inappropriate on-line behaviour.

The videos and resources below were developed by the Australian government to be used by schools to promote eSafety.

eSafety: What are the Big Issues?

Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying is when someone uses the internet to be mean to a child or young person so they feel bad or upset.

Use social media and online chat

Understand the risks of being online and what you can do to have a safer experience.

Sending nudes and sexting

While sharing intimate images or text messages may seem like innocent flirting, it can have serious social and legal consequences.

Unwanted or unsafe contact

Unwanted contact is any type of online communication that makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe. It can be with a stranger or someone you know.

Protect your personal information

Personal information is any information or combination of information that enables an individual to be identified.

Banter vs bullying

Banter is typically playful teasing between friends, whether it’s an inside joke between school mates or a meme you’re sharing in a group chat. But sometimes it can go too far.

Online gaming

Gaming can be great for socialising and an amazing outlet for your imagination, but it also has its downsides.

Pressures from social media

Social media can be a great way to stay in touch with friends, but sometimes it can also cause us to compare our lives to others, or feel like we need to be constantly connected.

Being out, trans or gender diverse online

Going online can give you a vital source of support and information on LGBTQI+ issues that you might not be getting elsewhere. But it can also expose you to extra risks.

Protecting your identity

Online services are learning more and more about us from our personal information and the data they collect from us online.

Online dating

When you are old enough, connecting with people online can be a positive and fun experience. But online dating can be seriously risky.
